BARRY MICHAELS

At a time when America struggles to repay its debt and put people back to work, Barry’s often reminded of the times he faced similar struggles.

Barry grew up in Brooklyn, New York, after graduating Chiropractic College in 1969 he moved to Los Angeles where he lived for twenty plus years until relocating to Las Vegas in 1992, he’s lived there ever since.

After practicing chiropractic in Los Angeles for a number of years, Barry decided his patients were interfering with his other businesses so he sold his practice and pursued his business career and never looked back. For over fifty years Barry has owned and operated numerous business ventures, as he often says; from a pizza parlor to a national airline.

Barry is a divorced father of two daughters, 24 and 27, both attended the Clark County School System where they both earned full academic scholarships to attend the University of Redlands, where they both graduated with four year degrees.

Barry has a “checkered past” but believes he has  paid the price several times over. He’s a convicted white-collar offender (ex-felon) who spent fifteen months of a twenty-one month sentence at the Nellis Federal Prison Camp in North Las Vegas.

During that time he became a frequent visitor to the law where he began to appeal certain aspects of his conviction when he realized he could help other inmates with their legal issues.  It was during this time Barry realized he had a special love for the law and promised himself upon his release he would go to law school.

Upon his release, life began all over for Barry. In keeping with that promise he began his quest to go to law school by taking the Law School Admissions Test (LSATS), followed by law school applications. Unfortunately he was turned down by all of the schools he applied to.

At this point Barry enrolled at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) where he earned Bachelor Degree in Political Science (2005) and he continued to receive a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (2007). During that time he continued to apply to different law schools and like before, without success.

After taking his first political science class Barry realized how important politics was, and how it affects everyday life and learned, even with his prior conviction he could run for political office.

First entering politics in ‘02 Barry wrote and sponsored two Nevada Initiatives. The first would have provided additional funds for K – 12 public education, while the second was to change a Nevada Statute from a presumption of joint custody to shared custody.

In 2005 he decided to run for the 3rd., Congressional District of Nevada. The first thing Barry did was put out his story and let everyone know he was a felon. He has since run for the same position in ’08, ’10, ’12 & ’16, during this period he has debated: Congressman Jon Porter, Congressman Joe Heck, Congresswoman Dina Titus and Congresswoman Jackie Rosen all of whom have occupied the 3rd., District seat.

In February of 2016 Barry formed Americans For Civil Rights an IRS approved 501c3 public charity See: www.americansforcivilrights.org. Shortly thereafter Barry filed a class action lawsuit against the Attorney General of the United States and the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) attacking provision of the Federal Gun Control Act. The case is currently pending in the 9th Circuit. See: www.michaelsvslynch.com

For over fifty years Barry has created and operated a multitude different business’s, from a pizza parlor to a national airline. In ’04 he began to resurrect a vision he had of starting an ultra low fare national airline which is currently in the certification process. See: www.avatarairlines.com
